Study on terminology and indicators for data collection on rape, femicide and intimate partner violence

The study to be carried out under this contract shall broadly focus on improving the collection of comparable data on violence against women in the EU.
The study should contribute to the overall goal of having a regular collection of reliable and comparable data on violence against women in all EU Member States, including both prevalence survey data and administrative data.
The contract aims to develop a framework for comparable data collection on violence against women, mainly focusing on, but not limited to, intimate partner violence, femicide and rape. This will include:
1. clarified, and agreed harmonised definitions and indicators on intimate partner violence, femicide and rape with all EU-28;
2. developed recommendations, based on solid and clearly articulated arguments for how to improve data collection in the form of practical, tailor-made guidance to Member States where data gaps exist on the improvement of their data collection on violence against women, namely rape, femicide and intimate partner violence;
3. developed recommendations for the improvement of the International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes (ICCS), providing the basis for introducing specific codes for crimes related to gender-based violence. These recommendations should be based on the EU framework for collecting data on violence against women.
The study should coordinate with other actors and projects working on improving data collection on violence against women, especially those carried out in the EU, towards the creation of possible synergies and to prevent any possible overlap of efforts.
